Biography – Ron Brown
Born in New York City, NY, and raised in the state of Massachusetts, Brown
was a standout defensive back at Brown University in Providence, Rhode
Island, in the late 1970’s where he is a member of the school’s Sports
Hall of Fame and the All Century Team.
Brown began his college-coaching career at Brown University. He spent one
season as the head freshman coach moving up to the varsity staff and then
tutored the defensive backs for 3 seasons. While at Brown he also served
as assistant to the athletic director in 1986. He then joined the
University of Nebraska Football coaching staff where he remained for 17
years.
In March 2004 Brown became the Nebraska
State Director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
Brown has served as the national spokesman for FCA and is a regular
columnist for the FCA magazine “Sharing the Victory”.
A person of diverse talents, Brown hosts two Christian radio shows in
Nebraska and is a frequent guest on “Sports Spectrum”, an internationally
syndicated Christian sports radio show. In addition, Brown hosts a
statewide cable TV show called “Truth Vision”. He has authored several
books on Christian character and growth. Brown and former Husker Stan
Parker are co-founders and co-directors of a statewide Christian ministry
called
Mission Nebraska. Among many of
their endeavors Mission Nebraska has been involved in, the most
recent has been the purchase of a Christian radio station in central
Nebraska.
Brown is an outspoken advocate on many issues, including adoption,
abstinence, drug and alcohol education. He serves on the Board of Trustees
at Grace University and Nebraska Children’s Home.
Brown and his wife Molvina live in Lincoln NE with their daughters
Sojourner Elaine and Brownyn Pearl.
